Marching Band Fall Banquet

The Marching Band Banquet, marking the end of the marching season, will be on Thursday, December 3 at SHHS at 6:00 p.m. in the SHHS cafeteria. Speeches, awards and a slideshow will follow the banquet in the auditorium. All band students and their family members are encouraged to attend this wonderful evening! Dress for this event is semi-formal (no jeans please).

As is tradition, each family is asked to bring the following:

- An entree large enough to feed your family plus two others

- A bottle of soda or juice

- If your last name begins with A - L , please bring a dessert

- If your last name begins with M - Z, please bring a salad or side dish

Adrenaline Premieres at UMass Adrenaline debuted their 2009 show, 'Rebel Without a Cause', at the Bowker Auditorium at UMass Amherst on November 19. The group was invited to perform as a part of the Marimba Bands & Ensembles Concert directed by Thomas Hannum. "UMass has a special connection with South Hadley High as we have alumni teaching there and each year a number of our students come to UMass from that music program," said Hannum. The show choir wowed the crowd and proved that the best is yet to come!

TigerPride Special Performance a Hit! The TigerPride Marching Band held a special performance of their 2009 field show 'Rush and Roll' on November 21. Over 100 family members and friends packed the bleachers at SHHS to enjoy the show. In attendance were School Superintendent Gus Sayer and School Committee member Christine Sweklo, as well as a surprise appearance by the school mascot! "This was a phenomenal idea," said Elena Lamontagne,SHMPA president, "and we hope the music department can make this an annual event!"

SHMPA Planning Meeting

Our next meeting is on Monday, December 7, 2009 in the chorus room at South Hadley High School from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. We will review our budget, upcoming events and more. Please plan to attend!

SENIOR MOMENTS

Connie Flachs '10 has lent her musical talents to the Concert Choir for the last four years and to Vocal Roar for three. "I really like being a part of the music department because everyone there is so supportive," she says. Another big part of Connie's life is dance. She has studied ballet for four years and plans to audition with dance companies in New York and Boston in the coming year. Her future plans also include attending Mt. Holyoke College as a dance major. Her favorite subject is psychology and in her spare time she likes to bake, knit, and act.

Mackie Godbout '10 is a multi-talented brass musician who performs with the Marching, Jazz and Concert Bands, as well as Winter Percussion. Her instruments include trumpet, tuba, flugle and auxiliary percussion. "I like the way we sound and the power we project as a group," says Mackie. Her favorite class is music theory and she hopes to attend to Norwich University after high school. Outside of the music department, Mackie plays goalie for the lacrosse team and has achieved the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in the Young Marines. She enjoys listening to country and Irish punk rock music.
