September 2009

SHMPA Planning Meeting
The South Hadley Music Parents Association will have its next meeting on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 in the chorus room at South Hadley High School from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. We will review our budget and upcoming fundraisers and more. Please plan to attend!

Penny Drive - Tell your neighbors, tell your friends!
Our annual Penny Drive will take place on Saturday, September 12 from 8:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. Adult drivers should be at the SHHS band room by 8:00 a.m. to receive your route assignment. All students must return a medical information form and permission slip, signed by a parent or guardian, before they can participate. Donations can also be brought to the high school that day!

Recyclables Collection at UMass Amherst
Volunteers are needed to collect cans and bottles in and around the football stadium at UMass football games. You'll have access to see the Minutemen play football while helping to raise money for SHHS music programs. We need ten volunteers for each of the following home games: 9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 10/17, 11/7, 11/14. Contact Tina Lukasik at 244-2063 to sign-up.

Music Committee Report
The South Hadley School Committee met on Tuesday, September 1, at which time the Music Committee presented its report on the High School band and instrumental music programs. The committee, which consisted of school committee members, music instructors, parents and high school students, was charged with developing a vision for the program, identifying goals, and making recommendations. The committee's recommendations included: strengthening the music program by offering music lessons to students at Mosier Elementary, increasing the visibility of the marching band in the community, providing opportunities for volunteers to work with the program, and offering new music courses, to name a few. A full copy of the report will be available at the SHMPA Planning meeting on September 8.
